On the Road Again
Tomorrow morning, early, I leave for North Carolina for a reading at Malaprops and then the week long writer's workshop, Sycamore Hill. Shingles are responding to medication. Now all I have to do is laundry, getting copies of the story, getting the dog's prescription for thyroid meds refilled, etc. etc.
I glanced in the mirror yesterday morning and thought I had not gotten my make-up all off the night before. Specifically, my eyebrow pencil. My eyebrows had that Richard Nixon, 5:00 o'clock shadow look. Then I peered closely and realized, it's hair! My eyebrows are coming back! And my eyelashes!
The dogs and I did a bit of a happy dance. They didn't know why we were happy, but dogs are almost always willing to be happy.

Hi, I have actually being thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. It’s seems lately everyone’s been busy except for me. Blog writing has been slow. I usually hang out at Madeleine’s blog (It’s seems I always hang out at other’s blog). It reminds me of when I was a kid and how I always wanted to eat dinner at my friend’s house. It always seemed to taste better. The other reason is that everyone tells me that my blog is boring. SO anyways, I just read your thoughts on "Where I get My Ideas Or How Romance Fiction is Like Pornography" and I thought it was very interesting and one of my questions I have always thought of myself.
But, I think to sum it up it’s really about the “Tension”. Whether it’s a guy’s book or girls books the true appeal lies in the tension of how the writer portrays this. Perhaps the subject matter might be different. In a girl’s book, women like the concept of beautiful clothes and a party but the tension is where it matters not the sex. It’s about, not only catching the eye of the man but making sure the stepsisters don’t recognize you and you must get back before midnight, yes it’s relational but I think modern romance writers and readers are becoming too lazy and too accepting in what romance is really about.
A Guys book the subject might like this, guy wants girl, guy sees girl, guy wants to get girl, guy notices danger to fall upon world and ultimately fall upon the girl so he has to save world, at last minute girl helps guy save world from destruction. All is safe at the end of the day.
It’s not the sex; it’s the tension that makes the book. But, me not being a true writer I can easily say that. In my opinion it’s the publishers that have the true prejudice.

Hope you have a fun time here in North Cackalacky. Won't be able to make the reading in Asheville (I'm in Raleigh), but I'm sure it'll be fantastic, in at least two senses of the word.
