Marjorie and Walt Farrell--Marjorie was a Clarion student--are driving home from Wiscon and they will be passing my place tonight. So Bob and I are going to take them out to dinner. It will be a little bit of Wiscon for an evening.
Something weird is going on with the blog. I'm going to back up all my posts after I post this. I'm hoping this post will bring it back to life.

Blog weirdness seems to have passed. For a few hours, there was a blank page. I thought it was a LM firewall issue.

Oh, good, it's back.
I made a lemon meringue pie. I felt guilty that sf friends were coming and I wasn't cooking _anything_.
Pretty soon I'll have to ship another couple of boxes of brownie mix to Zakbar. Just 'cause I miss him.
Did you use extra lemon zest? Kinda *zings* it up.
I used lemon zest, but the recipe called for 2 teaspoons which is a lot of zest and I got bored, so no extra. Tasted pretty good.
I wish I could get pie out a piepan, though.
Walt and Marjorie's car was making odd noises, so this morning they took it to our mechanic and we took them to breakfast. The odd noises were a whellbearing, which will be fixed by noon. And breakfast was quite good.
How do you make your crust? I find it comes out of the pan easier when I use shortening (like Crisco) but will practically weld itself to the pan if I use butter. I've started using the no-trans-fat Crisco, which requires a little extra water to get the pie dough to the proper consistency, but otherwise tastes fine.
(When Danny found out, after we were married, that I could make a pie from scratch, he was thrilled practically beyond words. I strive to keep him impressed.)
Maureen may grumble about lacking the ability to get pie out of a pie pan, but at least she has nothing to worry about in the pie-making department.
That pie was excellent.
I also enjoyed dinner at the Japanese restaurant (and my first real experience with sushi), and breakfast while we got the car worked on. All in all, a great visit.
Now all I need is a recumbent bike to help work off the calories. (Seriously, I do have a touring bike that I must dust off soon, along with Marjorie's mountain bike, so we can both hit the road. But it was fun trying out recumbents with Bob.)
