Bob and I prepare to move...
...by discarding the contents of our house.
Okay, this is only this week's pile. And it doesn't include the pick-up truck load we gave away today, or the pick-up truck load we will give away tomorrow.
Didn't George Carlin say that a house is a place where you can keep your stuff?
(Oh and you can't see the couch and the rugs on the other side of the driveway. Anybody want to buy a house in Twinsburg?)

What did I miss? Where are you moving?
Jo and and the kids and dog and I move on August 17-18, and we're moving all of 2 blocks. Today I took 5 large bags of clothing to Salvation Army, and we've set aside a large pile of garage sale stuff. A bunch of other stuff went to the Swap Shed at the recycling centre. And still there are piles and piles of crap (and books; don't forget the books).

Derryl, we're moving to Austin, Texas because my husband got a new job. This means, among other things, that I'm attending World Fantasy.
It's a rather drastic way to decide whether or not to attend a con, but hey.
The last time we moved, we found boxes that hadn't been opened since the previous move. It was easier to throw them onto the truck than to open them and sort through them.
They still haven't been opened. Kathy suggested that I donate them to the auction of the local SF convention, as "Walter Jon Williams Mystery Boxes."
We could buy your house if it's a one-story with four bedrooms and a VA nearby.
Alas, it is two stories.
Walter, we have those boxes, too. In one of them, somewhere, is my favorite award, my Tiptree. I'm hoping to find it this move so I can put it out because it's a lead crystal bowl with a small etched seal in inuit style and it's beautiful.
There are two kinds of writers.
There are the writers who send out press releases about their awards and put giant pictures of them on their web sites.
And there are writers who put their awards in boxes and forget where they are.
I prefer the latter.
