Blogs I Follow
Eat Our Brains The brain child of Steve Gould.
Chrononaut Log David Moles smart and funny observations. Actually, what I really love about his log is the design, which fills me with envy.
Pen in Hand I've known Karen for years, but didn't know that in addition to being a writer and a journalist and a volunteer at the local raptor center, she is also a beautiful illustrator. The most beautiful blog I follow.
Austin Kleon It seems absurd to talk about this blog without including any images, but lets just say it's fun, sharp and graphical.
Not a Journal (Except Now It Is) If this were a blog, it would be about Small Beer and Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet, except it's not a blog. Except it really is.

Maureen,
Have you been to Fiesta down at 39th and I35? You will find a they carry a diverse selection of vegetables. Fiesta caters to the eating choices of many of the smaller ethnic groups in Austin.

Chayote is awesome. Aji Ichiban stores in Singapore and Hong Kong sell a dried/cured version of chayote that comes in a convenient travel/snacking container, and it's incredibly addictive and tasty stuff.
Stuart, I find I35 to be a bit of a nightmare...but I'll brave it for cool veggies. Have you seen the incredible, huge asian grocery on Lamar just south of Parmer in that big asian center?
dried chayote? Jason, that's pretty amazing sounding. I have a friend whose Schnauzer, Carly, loves chayote.
Now you've stumped me. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and I'm still not sure what it is. What does it taste like?
Maureen, if you want to email me your postal address, I'd be happy to send you one after we move to Singapore in March.
Maureen,
In this case your aversion to I35 is justified. The entrances and exits that serve the area where Fiesta is located are the most dangerous on the stretch between Georgetown and Buda.
The way to get there is to head south on 183 and get off at Lamar. Go south on Lamar to Airport. Follow Airport to the I35 access road and follow it to 38th. Cross under/over (there are two levels of I35 there) I35 to the other side and go to 39th.
I know about the Asian market close to Parmer on Lamar but I haven't gone there. HEB has a selection of asian ingredients that are adequate for my low carb needs. I now have a low carb thickener and am going to attempt hot and sour soup.
